['brʊk 'rəʊz], Christine, englische Schriftstellerin, * Genf 1926; 1956-68 Journalistin; seit 1975 Professor für englische Sprache und Literatur an der Universität Paris. Nach witzig-satirischen Gesellschaftsromanen wandte sie sich einer experimentellen Schreibweise zu, die selbstreflexive Züge trägt und mit wissenschaftlichen Konzepten und Kodes spielt. In den der Sciencefiction nahe stehenden Romanen »Out« (1964) und »Such« (1966) bewegt sie sich im Bereich der Biochemie beziehungsweise der Astrophysik, in »Between« (1968) im Bereich der Semantik und in »Thru« (1975) unter dem Einfluss der Tel-Quel-Gruppe im Bereich der Erzähl- und Sprachtheorie. In dem Roman »Amalgamemnon« (1984) verbindet sich diese Sprachbesessenheit mit dem Thema weiblicher Rollenzwänge.
